Curriculum
We view curriculum as everything that happens during our time together with the children. This includes
moments to explore relationships and create a classroom community that nurtures the children. We begin each school year with attention to creating not only a beautiful environment that invites curiosity and exploration, but an emotional environment that encourages kindness, respect, tolerance, and love for each other.
We create long stretches of open time for the children's play and exploration during the day, believing that children deserve the opportunity to spend time with each other and with their ideas, questions, and challenges.
Children have opportunities to engage in sensory exploration, drama play, block building, game playing, puzzle work, reading, writing, drawing, art, science, and math activities. You'll see children playing with their peers or alone. You'll see us watching and listening to children, documenting their play with photos and notes, offering resources to support and extend their play, and playing alongside kids.
Our unique holistic preschool curriculum was developed to take the children on an inner journey – a journey not only to becoming academically enriched but also to awaken the unique expression of each individual child. It is meant to invoke their BIG imaginations, help them to discover their creative potential and their own unique interests all while having tons of fun, laughing and making great friends in the process, in a warm, family-style environment.
Our curriculum integrates the intellectual, emotional, physical, social, creative and spiritual capacities; we engage the “whole child.” Although we provide some guided instruction throughout our curriculum, we leave plenty of room for learning opportunities to spontaneously arise as the children engage in play, having fun and just being who they are – curious, imaginative and explorative young souls just trying to make sense of the world around them.

Emergent Curriculum
One of the great aspects of working with children is how open they are with their ideas and interests. When working with young children, a little observation, on our part allows an entrance into the child’s world and their interests and values.
Out of these observations, comes the concept of emergent curriculum, which is different from the more traditional style of creating theme based curriculum. Emergent curriculum is a non-traditional style of designing curriculum that allows children to explore their interests and passions based on their lead as opposed to teacher directed themes. When we really listen to children and nurture and encourage their play we are helping to create strong, confident, creative members and future leaders of our community.

Atelier (Art Studio)
More than an "art area," we think of the Atelier as a laboratory for ideas. In a traditional art room, the goal is for the child to make a specific product - for example, a pumpkin craft because it is Halloween. In the Atelier, on the other hand, children come to explore their ideas - collaboratively and alone - without preconceived expectations about what they will make or bring home. At Gifted Minds, we believe that the process is more important than the product.
The children contribute to the organization and use of the studio spaces by bringing in recyclables, categorizing materials, practicing art techniques, and, of course, by making beautiful, unique creations!
